Dear Byron families,

This morning, some school and district leaders (in Byron in other districts in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties) received a mass-distributed email demanding we threatening to detonate a device . No individual school or district was mentioned, and site and district leaders contacted our local Sheriff immediately. The person sending this email is demanding that all Russian prisoners be released. The threat has been deemed a hoax and not been deemed credible by local authorities. Site and district leaders and the CCC Sheriff take these issues of safety seriously and will continue to work together. The Sheriff and site staff are sweeping all sites to follow safety protocols. Safety is our top priority, and we thank all in our school community for their efforts to keep our community safe. It is likely you will hear of this email on local social media and in news outlets. I want you to know we are monitoring the situation very closely and will keep you in the loop with any further developments.

Thank you,

Crystal Castañeda
Superintendent
Byron Union School District
